It's a quick, easy run down the highway. No complicated roads, no toll booths to manage as a passenger. You'll arrive having barely had time to finish the bottle of water from the airport.

Puerto Morelos has stayed quieter than Playa del Carmen and more local than the Hotel Zone. It's a small fishing town that now also happens to have some very good restaurants, a growing yoga and wellness scene, and one of the best-preserved coral reefs in the Riviera Maya sitting just offshore.
Most visitors are here for one of three things: the reef (it's a national marine park, so no motorised water sports, just snorkelling and diving), the slow pace (the main square is genuinely peaceful compared to Playa), or the access (it's close to the airport, which makes it easy for shorter trips or as a first or last night before heading further south).
It's also popular with families who want calm water, since the reef breaks most of the wave action. The beach near town is protected and generally safe for kids to swim.
For a short transfer like this, vehicle choice is mostly about group size and luggage rather than comfort over a long drive.
