Find your resort's transfer zone

The resorts around Cancún spread across more than 150 km of coast, from the Hotel Zone in the north to Tulum in the south. Airport transfer companies price the trip by zone rather than by individual hotel, so the quickest way to know your drive time and cost is to find which area your resort sits in.

The table below maps each zone to a "from" price and drive time, with a link to the full route page. Prices are per vehicle, taxes included, not per person.

The one rule that saves money

Whatever your resort, decide on your transfer before you land. The airport taxi booth is legal and safe but priced by zone with no negotiation, and it's positioned right where tired travelers say yes. A pre-booked private transfer fixes the price in advance and puts a named driver in arrivals, usually cheaper than the booth for two or more.

Cancún Hotel Zone resorts

The classic Cancún strip, the closest resorts to the airport at about 15–25 km, a 15–30 minute drive. This is where the taxi booth overcharges most, because it's so close that the markup is pure margin.

Big names here include the Riu resorts (Cancún, Palace, Caribe), Hyatt Ziva Cancún, Live Aqua Beach Resort, Hard Rock Hotel Cancún, Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach, JW Marriott and Marriott Cancún, The Westin Lagunamar, Iberostar Selection Cancún and NIZUC at the southern tip.

Costa Mujeres & Playa Mujeres resorts

The fast-growing strip north of the airport and Hotel Zone, about a 40-minute drive. Because it sits the opposite side of the city, it's worth getting a live quote rather than assuming Hotel Zone pricing.

Resorts here include Planet Hollywood Cancún, Riu Palace Costa Mujeres and Riu Dunamar, Atelier Playa Mujeres, Dreams Natura, Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, Garza Blanca Resort Cancún and Excellence Playa Mujeres.

Puerto Morelos resorts

A short hop south, about 36 km, 20–30 minutes, and home to some of the region's largest all-inclusive complexes. Several share long private access roads, so your exact resort name matters at booking.

This zone covers Moon Palace Cancún, Dreams Riviera Cancún, Now Jade Riviera Cancún, Excellence Riviera Cancún, Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancún and Ocean Coral & Turquesa.

Playa del Carmen, Playacar & Mayakoba resorts

About 45–60 minutes south (50–68 km depending on the exact resort). Playacar is the gated resort enclave beside Playa del Carmen; Mayakoba is the luxury gated community a little to the north.

Resorts include the Iberostar Playacar group, the Riu Playacar resorts, Sandos Playacar, Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen, Hotel Xcaret México and Hotel Xcaret Arte, Paradisus Playa del Carmen, and the Mayakoba properties, Andaz, Fairmont, Banyan Tree and Rosewood Mayakoba.

Akumal & the Riviera Maya corridor

The stretch from Puerto Aventuras down to Akumal, roughly 85–105 km, about an hour and 15 minutes. Many resorts here sit behind security gates, so a door-to-door private transfer beats piecing together buses and colectivos with luggage.

This zone includes Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya (near Puerto Aventuras), Barceló Maya Grand Resort, the Bahia Principe Grand resorts, Secrets Akumal, Dreams Aventuras, Grand Palladium and TRS Yucatan at Kantenah.

Tulum resorts

The farthest of the main beach zones, about 130 km, an hour and a half. Many Tulum hotels sit in the beach zone, a strip separated from the town, so confirm your exact drop-off when you book.

Resorts and hotels include Bahia Principe Tulum, Dreams Tulum, Secrets Tulum, Hilton Tulum, Conrad Tulum, and the boutique beach-zone names like Be Tulum, Nômade and Azulik.

Always enter your exact resort name and address

Transfer pricing is by zone, but the drop-off is to your specific resort. Large complexes in Puerto Morelos and the Riviera Maya share access roads, and Tulum splits between town and beach zone. Putting the full resort name and address on your booking means the driver takes you straight to the right lobby.

A note on the island resorts

If your resort is on Cozumel, Isla Mujeres or Holbox, the trip has two parts: a private transfer to the ferry pier, then a ferry across that you buy separately at the dock. See the Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and Holbox guides for how each one works.

Common questions

How do I know which transfer I need for my resort?
Transfers are priced by zone, not by individual hotel. Find your resort's area above, Hotel Zone, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Akumal or Tulum, and that zone's drive time and "from" price apply. Enter your exact resort name and address at booking so the driver takes you to the right entrance.
Why is the airport taxi booth more expensive than booking ahead?
The booth is legal and safe, but it's priced by zone with no negotiation and sits right where tired travelers arrive. A pre-booked private transfer fixes the price before you fly, tracks your flight, and has a driver waiting with your name, usually cheaper than the booth for two or more people.
Can the driver take me all the way to my all-inclusive?
Yes, a private transfer is door-to-door, dropping you at your resort's lobby rather than a bus terminal. Give the full resort name and address at booking, as several large complexes share access roads in Puerto Morelos and the Riviera Maya corridor.
Is one transfer enough if my resort is far south, like Tulum?
For most beach resorts a single private transfer covers the whole trip, even to Tulum (about 130 km, 1.5 hours). The exception is the island resorts, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and Holbox, where the transfer goes to the ferry pier and the ferry is a separate ticket bought at the dock.
